My mum was diagnosed in September 2006 with Breast Cancer, the NHS were absolutely brilliant and treated her superbly. She had stage 3 aggressive so had to have 6 months of chemotherapy and then radiotherapy every day for 3 weeks. Thankfully my mum is now in remission but has to go for check ups every 6 months.
I had previously ran the Race for Life with my mum but she had to miss a couple of years as she was having treatment and was not strong enough for a while.
In June this year we ran the Race for Life together which was very special and emotional for both of us and we raised £520.00
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and on Friday 30th October it is “Wear It Pink” day.
Here in Dudley we are all wearing something pink and each of us will make a donation (amount up to the individual). We are also baking cakes and other food stuff which we will sell in our office and hopefully to our customers !!!
I am hoping that our other 2 branches in the Black Country will take part as well so that we can raise as much money as possible.
It would be fantastic if all our A4e branches could do the same.
The web link below is where you can register to get a fund raising pack for each office.

Hi Sarah – it sounds like a fantastic idea – don’t forget to take pictures and upload them!
Well Done Sarah, if you look at our forums you will see my profile picture from Saturday October 3rd when we held a pink cake/raffle/tombola stall here in Norfolk. We raised £172 in about 4 hours so was well worth it! Maybe i’ll see how deep the pockets are in our A4e office for the 30th too!!!
My partner has recently been diagnosed with prostate cancer and the Macmillan Nurses have been absolutely brilliant, although we were both struck with sudden speech loss and brains that turned to blancmange we have followed up with conversations and help lines. This year we will be supporting Macmillan as out chosen charity. Good to hear that your mum is in remission I look forward to having that news as it seems to take over your whole life.
My aunt has just been diagnosed with a cancerous lump on her brain.
I spoke to her last night 22/10/2009 to wish her luck on the start of her treatment, and she didnt remember me or my husband or my 13 year old daughter. It was heart breaking. My Aunty Sharon used to be the life and soul of the party, but now she is tired and withdrawn all the time.
She is the bravest woman I have ever met, as she is just taking it in her stride and is getting on with her life. The Macmillan nurses have offered her so much help and support, just like they did when my grandad (aunts dad) was hit with the BIG C 5 years ago. He died 3 years ago now and I would like to say a HUGE thank you to the help and support that the Macmillan Nurses gave to him, and are giving to my aunt.
A4e Great Yarmouth are holding a PINK fancy dress day on the 30/10/2009 we have been sponsored for wearing PJ’s all day and Dying beards pink and just dressing up in general. We hope to raise as much money and awareness as we can to help find a cure for this dreadful disease that takes so many lives. Thank you Zx
Hi Alison
Sorry to hear about your partner, it does take over your life and it isn’t easy. My partners father was diagnosed with prostrate cancer about 3 years ago and he is now fine, he had to have radiotherapy every day for 4 weeks. Good Luck and i hope everything goes ok for you and your partner.
