Causes of Impotence and Possible Cures

Impotence or erectile dysfunction is a problem that men can suffer from which means they are unable to get off to sustain an erection. Impotence can be caused by several different reasons and as a result can happen to men at any age during their life.

When younger men suffer from impotence it could be to do with nervousness about sex or worrying about getting their partner pregnant. Some younger men also worry about using a condom, which is a very common cause of impotence. Alcohol and drug misuse can also lead to impotence and are now two of the most common causes of impotence in young men.

As men get older the causes of impotence start to change (although alcohol and drug misuse can cause impotence of any age). This age group tend to suffer impotence due to stress, guilt, working too much and even through bereavement. Diabetes is also said to cause some of the cases of impotence in middle-aged men as is depression.

After middle age impotence becomes more common, although there are men of 70 years and over who can still achieve and maintain an erection. However impotence does become more common the older man gets.
As well as alcohol and drug misuse smoking can also cause impotence – something which is now starting to be quite a problem. Men who are overweight and obese will also find that they have a high chance of suffering from impotence at one time or another during their lives. In addition to this certain medications can also cause impotence, such as medication for depression and blood pressure.

If you are suffering from impotence and find that it is affecting your life and your relationships you need to do something about it as soon as possible. If you are misusing alcohol or drugs you need to cut down or stop taking them completely as this should help you to achieve and maintain an erection in the future. Men who are stressed or overworked should aim to find ways of relaxing in the stressing as this can help them to overcome impotence.

However if your problem with impotence is medical you need to go and seek professional advice. Go to your GP and talk to him about the various treatment that you could use to treat impotence. There are many different pills on the market at the moment which can help men to achieve and maintain an erection and you might be able to prescribed one of those. You may find it embarrassing going to your GP but they will have spoken to men in your position many times before. Not only that they will be able to help you to find a way to overcome impotence and have a healthy sex life once again. Do not be tempted to buy anything online as these pills and creams can be quite dangerous, not to mention ineffective. For more information on overcoming impotence speak to your GP or A4e who will be able to put you in to watch with someone who can help.
